So you want to be seen more on Instagram. I get this.

↠ Did you know? ↞ The ‘name’ section on your Instagram bio is searchable.

This means that if someone enters a search term in Instagram’s search feature, the ‘name’ section actually takes priority over the ‘username/Instagram handle’.

Let’s think about this for a minute. When you are using Google and searching for something, do you search the company name specifically or do you search using specific keywords that explain what you’re looking for.

When you created your own website you likely focussed a lot on the copy, what keywords to use, what photos represented your brand as you built out pages and made it just right. You want to make sure that you’re doing the same with your Instagram profile because it’s a also a very powerful search engine.

As I primarily teach social media to entrepreneurs and offer social media advice through Instagram posts (along with other topics), I chose to focus on one area in my name section.

Mine (currently) is:

DEANNA | SOCIAL MEDIA STRATEGY

This means I have a higher chance of showing up in a search with someone searching those ↑ words.

What should you do?

Add in keywords that explain what your profile and/or business is about (there’s not a lot of room so you might have to get creative!).  Figure out what keywords represent you and your Instagram profile and consider trying testing out some of those in the name section.

TIP: if relevant, make sure your name is still on your bio to keep that connection to you.
